Crystal started with AmeriMax, who manufactures AlumaWood. She started with them in 2010 as a customer service representative. She then moved into becoming a production supervisor. She worked with all aspects of the material, from unloading trucks and stocking material to pulling orders, quality control, and shipping. She loved it, because she got to be in the warehouse, working with the guys (she was the only female production supervisor, and the only woman in that facility). She formed lots of great relationships with their customers, who were mostly contractors, and really learned how patio covers work and what types of projects they work best for.
She ended up moving to Metals Building Products, the manufacturer of EliteWood. She got to learn, from the ground up, how EliteWood is made and what goes into it. She formed new relationships with customers and clients alike, ensuring that every project was completed to satisfaction.
Once her time with Metals was done, Crystal began consulting with customers. She’d go to home shows and show them how to sell their products. This landed her with Phoenix Patio Systems, a top-ranked patio cover company in Arizona. She became a project manager for the Aluminum patio section that they had.
Jason worked with Metals Building Products for twenty years. He started in small parts, pulling small parts for orders, and worked all the way up to running the factory as a Service Center Manager. He was in a position where he got to know his customers really well, building tight-knit relationships with them. As a manager, he also got to know his employees well, building lasting relationships there.
Jason’s experience covers a wide-range of topics: from pulling small parts to being an office manager to engineering and breakdowns to being a service center manager. He also ran all the machines that could actually make the parts, and he was able to fix the machines as well. And he was doing consulting during all of this. He has literally done it all.
In fact, Jason hired Crystal while working at Metals. When they first met, he avoided her like the plague. Their personalities did not mesh; Crystal almost quit during the first week because of Jason. He was used to being a supervisor with the “guys”, whereas Crystal had a background as a manager and HR. During their first week together, they actually butted heads, leading to a pool of whether Crystal would get fired. Slowly, they were able to start talking and getting to know each other and found that they actually had a lot in common. Today, happily married after 8 years and three kids, they are the perfect working couple.
Despite their love for Metals Building Products, they decided to move on. Since Crystal and Jason worked well together and had been approached by several other companies, they decided to free-lance, doing sales, engineering, ordering materials, and helping companies such as Arizona Patio Cover, Arizona Desert Shades, Southwest Patio, and Phoenix Patio Systems with their expertise. Overtime, though, their experience and knowledge in the field and their relationships with their clients led them down a new path: their own company.
They started in Arizona, where there’s more sunshine than New Mexico. During this time, Crystal’s mom was diagnosed with cancer. The visits to New Mexico became more and more frequent, sometimes spending more than half the year in New Mexico at a time. They decided to move to New Mexico full time, to be closer to Crystal’s family. What they found was that New Mexico has tons of sunshine, too, which makes it a perfect location to bring patio covers to.
Wisconsin
Jason was born and raised in Wisconsin and has a large extended family that still lives there. Jason & Crystal visit Wisconsin often and love the environment there. During their visits, they found a doctor that specializes in the rare type of cancer that Crystal's mom has. After many heartfelt discussions and a lot of research they made the tough decision to relocate to Wisconsin in order to give not only themselves but Crystal's mom a chance at a longer, happier life. As much as they have loved living and building a life in New Mexico, their journey is now taking them to a new place. They have enjoyed New Mexico and appreciate all the support and wonderful clients they've had the pleasure of working with.
